The Executive Director of the National population council, Madam Leticia Adelaide Appiah has suggested to government to ensure that childbirth be restricted to three. The 2016 population and housing census pegged Ghana’s population at 28.21 million.
The proposal was a step to ensure quality in human resource, and also the economic and social development of the country.
According to her, Ghana has in the last 30 years maintained an astronomical growth rate of 2.5%; comparative to the global average of 1.5%, hence the growth rate should be reduced, to guarantee the quality of life of the citizenry.
China, India and other countries have adopted similar policies as a developmental strategy for increasing the general wellbeing of its economy.
She noted that if the situation persists without the appropriate policy to address it, the quality of life in the country will experience a sharp decline, leaving very few people with the needed technical know-how of addressing various challenges in the country.
