Ghana will host the 14th edition of the All Africa Challenge Trophy, the unique championship that began in 1992. Held among the female golfers from the participating African countries, it sees the consistent rise in the number of participating countries. For African nations who are witnessing a growth in the economy in the recent years, this move sparks a new development. It talks about women empowerment, equality and society coming of age.
The All Africa Challenge Trophy
This year, it kicks off from 26th to 31st August 2018. It is held every two years and caters to the female golfers from the African continent; this event successfully carved the niche for itself. Lots of countries bid for hosting this tournament. Who doesn’t want to host a successful and popular event like this? If you are a sports bettor, you would love it as well. You will be able to bet on all your favourite matches easily with Betway sports betting.
Ghana hosts this year’s event in its newly designed and PGA rated Achimota Golf club. In the bidding held in 2016 in Tunisia, Ghana won the bid amongst countries like South Africa, Tunisia, Morocco and Kenya. Apart from being the centre of the golfing buzz, Ghana will also be able to attract tourists to her natural beauty. This is the first time that Ghana is hosting such a sporting event. It is impressive that from being a country with no women golfers’ union, today it is well-prepared to host the players from the fellow African nations.
A Journey Like No Other
The last twenty years have seen tremendous developments in African sports.
When the first All Africa Challenge Trophy’s invitation was sent to Ghana, from Zimbabwe, she did not even have a national team. The country honoured the invitation by sending a team whose players were affiliated with Ladies Golf Union of Scotland. But, in 1996, the nation established her own Union. From merely 50 players, today she has a strong and big pool of talented players.
The All Africa Challenge Trophy provides lady golfers with the unique opportunity of interacting with each other. They share their views, discuss the techniques and in turn also promote the brotherhood among the nations. It is a platform for them to mingle amongst themselves. We must admit that such events are rarer for the female sportspersons. They might travel to American and Asian nations for tournaments, but a tournament dedicated to the African nations solely carries emotional attachment.
Since its first edition, the tournament is also successfully promoting tourism in the host countries. Along with the payers, the fans also throng to the hosting country, and there is renewed interest in sports like golf.
They discover the little-known places and their beauty. Also, all through the tournament, the sponsors feature the neighbourhood areas. This goes well with the people watching the event worldwide, especially from the African continent. Also, the female golfing gets promoted. Each year newer talents are coming out. Definitely, this tournament is showing its positive effects.
